What Is the Difference Between Hotel and Resort

The main difference between a resort and a hotel is usually their services. Hotels are for travelers who need a place to stay the night at a specific location. On the other hand, resorts are usually destinations in and of themselves. Most resorts are more open, so their guests can find all they need in one place.

What is a hotel?

A hotel is a place where people can stay and sleep, and it is made with travelers in mind. Many different kinds of hotels offer additional services. For example, some hotels offer meals and other services like access to a spa, gym, and more.

Some hotels focus on a specific type of customer, such as business travelers. These usually include conference rooms and halls for special events, though these are becoming more common in hotels and resorts.

Hotels are usually less private than resorts because guests need more space. However, this is only sometimes the case.

You may also call some hotel resorts because they have more entertainment and recreation options. However, in most cases, these experiences differ from what a full-fledged resort offers. Most hotels don’t have everything you need for a vacation in one place like a resort does, so guests usually have to leave the hotel to find what they need.

For some hotels, this is fine because they’re right in the middle of everything, making it easy for guests to get to the things they need. So, location is often the most important thing when picking a hotel.

What is a resort?

A resort has more than what a hotel does. It can be considered a destination in and of itself because most resorts have everything you need for a vacation in one place.

You name it; your resort probably has it: food, drinks, entertainment, shopping, activities, a spa, you name it. Resort stays can be different, and they often have a theme. Many resorts have activities based on where they are, like ski resorts, resorts in the middle of a rainforest, or resorts on a beautiful white sand beach.

In contrast to hotels, resorts are usually in rural areas and offer a welcome break from everyday life.

Resorts vs. Hotels: Amenities

Savvy travelers know that resorts have everything you could want regarding amenities. Hotels usually are different from this. Some things that come with an alternative are restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos, spas, shops, and more.

Most resorts have many different restaurants and (swim-up) bars for their guests to choose from when they are there. The grounds of resorts tend to be bigger, with big swimming pools, beautiful gardens, and long stretches of beach. Most resorts have more to offer in terms of amenities.

It is excellent for people who want to stay in the property to find what they need on their well-deserved vacation, but it’s a missed opportunity for people who want to spend all day exploring the area and eating out every night.
